Adoptive, Foster Homes Needed for Young Kids
Back
By Martha A. McClane – Managing Editor, San Benito News
Hoping to ease some of the emotional trauma children from broken
homes experience, the San Benito Rotary Club hosted a mass of
youngsters in a picnic in the park Saturday.
Games, food and fun were sponsored by Rotarians who support the
efforts of a local adoptive and foster care service who step in
to help remedy tragic and heart-rendering home life situations.
Some of the children are up for foster care or outright
adoption, after suffering abuse and neglect at home. “These
children often experience more physical pain, emotional trauma
and menial anguish than most adults experience in a lifetime,
said Gloria Chamberlain of Adopt a Child, while addressing the
Rotary Club recently.
“Our goal is to reunite as many children as possible with their
families. But, in some cases that’s not possible. These are the
ones we seek adoptive homes for,” she added. Her agency is in
the business of placing children with caring families. “We have
one family with six children (up for adoption)…But, most of the
sibling groups range between two and four children,” she added.
Working hand-in-hand with Chamberlain is the televised
Wednesday’s Child program hosted by Letty Valdez Garza, who
features children, showing their personal characteristics. Along
with the children, she stresses the need for patience and
support by foster/adoptive families to help the child overcome
previous hardships. |
